When should I consider having a floor Laced In?

Lacing in a transition involves more time and cost than just a simple threshold. Here's a few reasons to opt for Lacing in over a basic transition.

1

  • Removing a wall

To achieve a fully open floorplan feel, continuing the flooring seamlessly is necessary. A traditional transition will break up sight lines and highight where the wall once was, while a laced floor will make the change invisible.

2

  • Widening a Doorway

Like removing a wall, making a doorway wider aims to make a space feel bigger and remove interrupted sight lines. To create a seamless entry from one room to the next, lacing in flooring is the best option.

3

  • Adding hardwood to a new or existing room

Perhaps only your hallways were hardwood, or you made an addition to your home...areas where hardwood is being added to the floorplan can elevate the rest of the home when transtions are laced in.

Curious about Lacing in?

Will I need to refinish the floor completely after new boards are laced in?

Yes. For a truly seamless result, floors on either side of the laced area will need a full sand and refinish.

How much more does lacing in cost vs. a regular perpendicular board transition?

Since each floor is different and some require additional removal costs, please contact us and we'll give you an accurate quote for laced in vs. a basic transition.

The wood in my original floor is very old, are you sure you can match it?

We have multiple suppliers and access to a wide variety of board widths, species, and grades, and Eric's eagle eye for detail means he strives to achieve the  closest match possible.

The mark of a true professional is none.

Eric's years of experience in hardwood techniques have given him an expert eye for detail and matching of species and grain. Once the floor has been laced in and refinished, our clients can't tell the original boards from the new.
